You all know I know some of the best “locals.” I have some pretty special friends. This Friday, I am super excited for you all to meet, Jenny Oberhelman. I met Jenny at Thebarn in Burrton, KS and we became fast friends. Our kids are about the same age. We have a lot of similar things in common. She is one of the kindest people I know! I am so lucky to call her a friend and so proud of the business she has built.
I love getting to know history about “why” people start the business they are in or why they feel led to do so.
What is your why? Why do you do what you do.

Where did you grow up / go to school
I grew up in Desoto, KS. I attended Sterling College on soccer scholarship where I obtained my Bachelors of Science degree in Business Management.
Do you have kids? Tell me about them
Yes; I have a 5 year old son, Joey and a 3 year old girl, Cali. Joey is my outdoor, true to a T boy. Adventuress, silly, outgoing but also has a heart of gold and is his sister’s protector. Cali is my true to a T princess. She loves anything girly, nails, dresses, dancing, singing etc. She is her brother’s biggest fan
What did you do before you had kids( if applied)
I worked on building
Special K9. It was really important to me to build a successful business so that my children could watch me be a good provider and how to treat those whom we interact with often. I want them to see that you have to work hard and have heart in what you do.
How did you get into the career you are in ?
I was born and raised in a family owned company, “Triune Dog Training Academy” and starting training dog obedience at 4 years of old. At the age or 6 I started traveling with my mom across the country competing in dog agility trials and National Championship. At 13 I began specializing in behavior modification and aggression rehabilitation of all breeds and sizes of dogs. After my dad pushed me with his confidence in me being ready I branched out in 2012 and opened Special K9 Dog Training.
Fear is our greatest enemy. What would you tell the person who is scared to start their own business?
Trust God and trust yourself and then shoot for the stars because the sky is the limit. The biggest regret would be to never try.
What would you say to your 18 year old self ?
Don’t let the little things get to you, stay in the moment, trust and listen God and your intuition.
If you could go anywhere local this weekend, where would you go? Eat, drink, shop. First thing that comes to mind.
